Washington Township has a rich history dating back to the early 1800’s. Before it was inhabited, Washington Township was a densely wooded, fertile frontier when it was surveyed in 1976. One of the first families to settle in Washington Township was the Archer family. Washington Township had a rich farming history througout the 1800s and 1900s and now is a key residential, retail, and educational hubs of northern Fort Wayne. Within its boundaries, Washington Township has two major shopping centers, the Coliseum, major industrial parks, rural, and suburban living.
